An anti-LGBT lawmaker has been caught having sex with a man in his office

Conservative anti-LGBT lawmaker Wes Goodman resigned his seat last Tuesday after being caught having sex with a man in his office. No, no joke.

House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger confirmed to the press that Goodman had an “inappropriate” interaction in his Riffe Center office with a man not employed by the legislature.

“It became clear that his resignation was the most appropriate course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution,” Rosenberger said in a statement.

According to Brad Miller, official spokesman for Rosenberger, whatever wild shenanigans Goodman was up to with that man in his state-funded office happened several months ago and was completely consensual.

The 33-year-old, who has been often labelled as one of the rising stars of conservative politics in the region, described himself in his Twitter profile before the scandal as “Christian. American. Conservative. Republican. Husband to @Beth1027”. His wife, Bethany Goodman, is an assistant director of “March for Life” an annual anti-abortion rally.

Goodman was elected to represent the 87th District in north-central Ohio just last year and previously worked with conservative anti-LGBT Republican Jim Jordan, known for attempting to halt marriage equality legislation in the District of Columbia in 2014.

During his campaign, Goodman was not shy to express his righteous views on family and morals on his official site,

“The ideals of a loving father and mother, a committed natural marriage, and a caring community are well worth pursuing and protecting.”

At the time of writing his site and Facebook page have both been taken down.

The young Republican politician, once branded as the “conscience of the conservative movement” expressed back in 2013,

“Faith, family, service, stewardship, strong education, and investment in our local communities are what Ohioans value. My wife Bethany and I value those same things and are ready to get to work to serve you,”

Since the scandal exploded, additional testimonies have unveiled the Ohio lawmaker as a closeted homosexual, very active on Craiglist and with a history of previous allegations.

A Washington Post investigation revealed that in 2015, Goodman invited the teenage son of a prominent Republican donor to his room at the Ritz Carlton hotel and allegedly, unzipped the 18-year-old’s pants and began to fondle him.

The encounter happened during a conservative fundraiser conference for the then 31-year-old candidate for the Ohio legislature. The terrified teen told his parents and the whole thing cost him his departure from the Council for National Policy.

Tony Perkins, head of the prominent evangelical activist group Family Research Council and president of the Council for National Policy said to the teenager’s parents at the time,

“Trust me . . . this will not be ignored nor swept aside, it will be dealt with swiftly, but with prudence.”

Goodman becomes the second state lawmaker to resign in as many months after another Republican, Sen. Cliff Hite, had to step down amidst allegations of sexual misconduct.
